(2017) Tawnylea (species)
The Tawnylea are a species native to Tawnylea in Oburron. Outside of Tawnylea, the species is most commonly found in other Postgate lands nations, especially Breatnais. There is also a diminishing but notable Celtic substratum in Evonia. The species is traditionally characterised as excitable, experimental and creative, known for completely disregarding social conventions and notions of morality or logic in making aesthetic, personal or behavioural decisions; however, they can also be seen as unpredictable, selfish or self-centred and irrational.
History[edit | edit source]
Associated personality[edit | edit source]
The typical Tawnylea personality is excitable, experimental and creative, completely disregarding social conventions and notions of morality or logic in making aesthetic, personal or behavioural decisions.
As with other Celtic species, the Tawnylea live in a world dominated by powerful connections to other people and, critically, ideas and concepts; emotional attachment, rather than just intense interest or dedication, to an idea or concept, is seen as ordinary. Tawnylean society is structured around reinterpreting these connections, reinventing and experimenting with both themselves and new perspectives. This creates a sense of spontaneity, making Tawnylea seem unpredictable, but they will often have set trademarks.
However, unlike more socially-driven Celtic species, like the Breatnais, the Tawnylea find complex social connections, conventions and structures tiring and boring. This means that, despite their ability to work and experiment with said structures, they rarely deliberately involve themselves in environments with complicated or unwritten rules, and often feel the need to withdraw from other people and into social isolation. In this state of isolation they re-asses their principles and views, sometimes returning nearly different people, in a process known as Pólnmí.
Tawnylea are drawn to risk-taking behaviours like gambling and extreme sports, such as black hole racing. Fortunately, their attunement to the moment and their environment allows them to do better than most. In the correct circumstances, more extroverted Tawnylea can enjoy connecting with others and have a certain charm in non-romantic relationships that allow them to deflect criticism.
However, if a criticism does get through, it can end poorly. Some can handle kindly phrased commentary, valuing it as another perspective to help push their passions in new directions. However, for the majority, or if the comments are more biting or require extra maturity, they lose their tempers in spectacular fashion. Ironically, they normally value harmony and are good with feelings, but when faced with criticism, they will explode crazily. This is an adverse consequence of their unpredictability and tendency to live in the moment, ergo these fights are almost always moved on from quickly and left in the past.
The Tawnylea are generally a sociable species with other species, and they make up a large part of the Underworld. However, despite their ability to judge climates and balance complicated social networks, they rarely do it by choice, making up a comparitively smaller fraction of the Dark Network.
The species bears some similarity in behaviours to the Evon - including the same affinity for understanding and manipulating social structures, the similarity of Pólnmí and Renmae, the enjoyment of risk-taking and immense dedication to or enthusiam about ideas or concepts - although they are motivated by completely different factors, and the short tempers, lack of logic or morality and perceived ideological hypocrisy or weakness of the Tawnylea will often strain these relationships. They will also get on well with Helltunans, especially romantically, although the psychological reasons of this are not fully understood.
