Glastieven mythology was an extensive fictional universe built in the second half of the 2010s by Cat, Kerry, Robert and Tom, along with other Glastievens who contributed to varying extents.[note 1] The shared universe was traditionally associated with online text-based roleplaying, but was also used for writing, cosplaying, larping and artwork, and expanded for its own sake via worldbuilding and character creation. It encompassed the BHH, Starlight, Mission, Maisraln, Suijing, Maiestas, Genesis and Crossover Cycles, along with a timeline that connected them together.

Most cycles had four key characters, which evolved from the player characters in the traditional RPs. A key character was controlled by its creator and was supposed to cleverly reflect some aspect of their personality whilst also being a well-rounded character and not a self-insert. At least seven other people created their own short-lived key characters, known in retrospect as fleeting keys. Other important characters were not usually associated with particular creators. The characters of the mythology were mortals, not gods. The eight cycles spanned genres from high fantasy to techno-thriller and the worldbuilding included both a magic system and elements that were hard science fiction.

The shared universe originated in the Acteriendian BHH roleplays in November 2015 and continued through to March 2020. Initially, the different cycles were separate roleplaying worlds, but in July 2017, the two oldest cycles — BHH and Maisraln — were put at opposite ends of the same timeline and the expanded universe was labelled "Glastieven mythology". Kerry and Cat had started BHH in primary school sometime between 2012 and 2014 as "the game"; together with Kerry's Oburron and Jenner paracosm, "the game" had provided the original lore for the Acteriendian roleplays. Maisraln was created in 2017, though it took some characters and concepts from Tom's Draconian paracosm, which he had started in 2014.

Notes[edit | edit source]

  1. In practice there was always a "group who did the mythology" in Glastieve that included at a minimum the four original creators (though Cat was often less active). Sutton, Michael, and Isabella each spent time as part of this group, creating their own characters and concepts. Ella, Clarence and Georgia made characters in 2019–20 but only used them in one or two RPs before the end of Glastieven history. Aaron was part of the 2017 revival of BHH RPs, though he used an old character rather than creating his own.
