(2017) Magic
Magic, also known as magical energy, is the destructive (dark) or constructive (light) force released when a mage, magical spirit or other entity interacts with the magical field. Light and dark magic are always released in equal amounts by a single interaction with the magical field, sometimes being visually represented as equally deep peaks and troughs caused by a single interaction with an otherwise flat field and travelling outwards from a single point as waves, similar to dropping a stone into a pond. Certain types of magic allow this energy to be directed towards fulfilling a specific purpose; when magic is used in this directed way it is termed a spell, otherwise, the term 'release' is normally used.
Magic is categorised into three fundamental types: raw magic, an uncontrolled and undirected burst of equal amounts of light and dark magical energy from a single point in time and space, having uncontrollable and unpredictable interactions with physical energy and matter; unbounded magic, a directed release of either light or dark magical energy with a specific purpose and result and the capacity to direct the resultant burst of the opposite kind of magic such that it is absorbed by the mage or the mage's instruments; and preceptive magic, a form of magic artificially created at the founding of the Kingdom that relies upon a second field, the preceptive field, to absorb the burst of the opposite type of magic than that which is directed for use, and which only allows certain set spells to be cast.
