Dragons
Dragons, belonging to the family Dracones, are a suborder of reptiles, comprising a group of scaly, featherless, winged and self-aware reptiles, some of whom are able to channel magic and most of whom can breathe fire. With four extant genera, it is one of the smallest suborders of extant vertebrates. Members of the suborder are distinguished by their self-awareness and featherless wings. They also possess scaly armour, in a number of colours, and long, often spiked tails. Dracones is part of the order Squamata, and the superorder Lepidosauria.
Protection of dragons, their habitat and way of life is a responsibility of the Ramaloce Heru, one of the Five Great Mages.

Wyrmekin[edit | edit source]
Whitewyrmes and blackwyrmes have been none to form close bonds with human children they find lost or abandoned. These people are known as wyrmekin, they almost always remain with their dragons throughout their lives and can speak dragontongue. They wear the shed skin of their dragons which only the sharpest blades can pierce and carry a lance fashioned for them by their dragons which they use to protect dragon colonies from dragonslayers and trappers. Due to their bond wyrmekin are extremely hard to defeat. Many wyrmekin avoid humans whenever possible however they will answer to the Five Great Mages and particularly the Ramaloce Heru as they each work in the interest of dragons.
